Teeofabrics exotic Kaftan designs and the history behind the ancient style.
Kaftan has been worn for thousands of years around the world and has been worn in a number of cultures around the world for thousands of years. The kaftan is ancient Mesopotamian in origin. Styles, uses, and names for the kaftan vary from culture to culture. The kaftan is often worn as a coat or as an overdress, usually having long sleeves and reaching to the ankles. In regions with a warm climate, it is worn as a light-weight, loose-fitting garment. In some cultures, the kaftan has served as a symbol of royalty.
In West Africa, a kaftan is a pullover robe, worn by both men and women. The women's robe is called a kaftan, and the men's garment is referred to as a Senegalese kaftan. In the western world, the kaftan slowly gained popularity, for its exoticism and as a form of loose-fitting clothing. For forward thinking fashion brands, Kaftans have been included as part of summer season lines for noted labels such as Roberto Cavalli, House Of Inoa Fashion and The Swank Store which in turn has seen the kaftan dress gain popularity as a womenswear staple for those visiting tropical holiday destinations.
often made from silk & finished with crystals & beading embellishments on the neckline & back of the garments, the many and varied kaftan styles are often referred to as modern, luxury resort wear, with the term 'kaftans' making up a generic name, encompassing the style genre. Normally made with bright, colorful & unique print designs referencing traditional middle eastern & Indian cultures fused with on trend color palettes & styles, these modern colorful outfits have begun to transcend use as resort only fashion items but as occasion wear items or as day to day wear.

Laduni Lambo Estectic use of Aso Oke Fabric
From the first collection, the cultural influence is evident through the use of Aso-Oke in her designs. According to an interview by Oxford Fashion Studio
, the choice to merge the traditional woven fabric with western influences was to ‘invite the viewer into the Nigerian culture, while seducing a more modern and global audience.’ Of equal weight is the statement and story each piece wishes to share with the audience. The Ladunni Lambo woman is one of purpose. As she discovers herself and how she wants to make her statement in life, she finds her strengths and her valuable contribution in making a difference
, the choice to merge the traditional woven fabric with western influences was to ‘invite the viewer into the Nigerian culture, while seducing a more modern and global audience.’ Of equal weight is the statement and story each piece wishes to share with the audience. The Ladunni Lambo woman is one of purpose. As she discovers herself and how she wants to make her statement in life, she finds her strengths and her valuable contribution in making a difference
Through design details such as synched-waists, statement sleeves, and high waisted trousers, Lambo looks to depict women as unforgettable and illustrious. She empowers them by sharing their stories from the past, present and what is to come. And to represent the intricacy and intrigue that shape these stories, she combines techniques such as cut-outs, fabric manipulation, mixed fabrics and layering that reflect the complexity. However, she keeps to the ‘less is more’ philosophy, packaging these stories in clean silhouettes and minimal material as a complete reflection of the modern woman and her needs. Using less also helps her thoughtfully craft each piece, pushing her design boundaries to manifest her visions.
The Fanny Pack Is Back and Yes, You Need One
The fashion crowd is famous for resurrecting trends we thought we’d seen the last of. Scrunchies, Birkenstocks, platform sneakers — it seems just when we’ve put past sartorial moments like these out of our minds, they pop back up again. We’ve learned never to say never when it comes to giving a retro redux a go — and good thing too, because fanny packs have officially returned, and they actually look cool. No, really.
The fanny pack — or belt bag, as it’s now been christened — was everywhere this past fashion month. It had been creeping back into the industry’s good graces for a while (Kendall Jenner was snapped wearing one back in January), but with Spring 2018, the trend is hitting critical mass. Aside from the runways, where Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Rachel Comey and more sent out models rocking the hands-free bag, the streets outside the shows were teeming with industry insiders cosigning the craze.
